08.06.2007, 19:03 11

The salaries that operators in the private system are willing to pay to doctors are as high as 3,000 euros, a sum that includes overtime for night shifts and on-call duty. "Euroclinic currently has 143 full-time employees, around 10% of whom are doctors and 55% are nurses. The gross average salary of a nurse, no overtime payment included, stands at around 2,000 RON (i.e. 600 euros), with that of a doctor at 3,200 (i.e. 950 euros)," said Catalin Andrew Popa, general manager of Euroclinic. He specified that if night shifts and on-call duties were added, the doctors' gross salaries could reach 3,000 euros. Euroclinic is the biggest private hospital in Romania, and the first to supply information on salaries in the medical field. By comparison, a specialist working in a state hospital, not holding a managerial position, earns around 350 euros, whereas a resident doctor earns around 150-200 euros, according to information available on the market.
