Electrica ventures into wind power

Electrica, a euro-billionaire company in terms of turnovergenerated by distribution and supply of power, is the onlystate-run company heading towards the completion of a wind farm,whereas investments worth up to one billion euros in "wind mills"are expected this year.
The rest of the state-owned companies such as Hidroelectrica andRomgaz have voiced no concrete intentions so far to invest in thisfield that proved attractive to the world's energy giants and tolocal companies.
"We have not lost interest in this field, but have other prioritiesat the moment," says Mihai David, general manager ofHidroelectrica.
Romgaz, too, says it intends to enter the electrical powerproducers market but deems it too early to talk about plans.Meanwhile, Petrom, for instance, is completing a 100 million-eurowind farm and a 500m-euro electrical power station running on gaswhich will be bigger than a Cernavoda reactor. The projects will becompleted in 2011.
