Energoconstructia, one of the biggest construction firms, is to enter the segment of infrastructure works this year and start developing a real estate project.
Foreign firms' soaring interest in the constructions market has made Energoconstructia representatives to consider forming some partnerships to be able to take part in major tenders in the infrastructure sector.
"For the next three years, we will team up with foreign firms to be able to participate in tenders and meet terms stipulated in tender books. Starting 2010, we estimate we will be able to participate on our own in major infrastructure projects," stated Constantin Tabacaru, technical manager with Energoconstructia.
The company is already in talks with construction firms from Turkey and Portugal. "We plan to team up with a Portuguese construction firm to take part in some electrical cable, water, sewage and telephony works in the area of the first 10 km of highway on the Bucharest-Ploiesti section, in case this company wins the contract for the construction of the first section," specifies Tabacaru. In addition, the firm is getting ready to take part in tenders for the rehabilitation of water networks and sewage of Deva, Hunedoara, Sibiu and Galati together with Turkey's Eser company, as well as to enter a partnership with a Portuguese firm for a similar project in Bacau.
"There's been a massive inflow of foreign firms since as early as the middle of last year and we've also been contacted by German firms for work related to the rehabilitation of water networks," specifies Tabacaru.
The strong growth the construction market has witnessed over the past two years, and by the massive exodus of Romanian workers abroad led to a dramatic workforce shortage and to aging workforce in constructions.
In a bid to stop the personnel outflow, Energoconstructia decided to raise workers' salaries and offer better working conditions. Moreover, the company is currently carrying out training programmes for employees for the use of new constructions materials given the dramatic change of the range of finishes.
Energoconstructia has recently announced it would invest between 60 and 100 million euros in a residential project in the south of the capital city together with Energomontaj company. The project, to be located near Soseaua Giurgiului, will have an area of some 4.5 hectares and will include between 750 and 1,100 flats, depending on the permits the company gets from the city hall.
This is the company's first own residential project as it has so far participated in the building of several residential buildings as a constructor.
The buildings will be erected using construction materials produced by Energoconstructia, and therefore construction costs will be lower.
