Ford Romania, the second-largest auto maker on the Romanian market, manufactured 358 Transit Connect commercial vehicles from the official start of production in September until the end of January, which means an average of four vehicles per day, i. e. 300 times less than the Dacia plant.
The entire output of the Craiova plant was exported in January, whilst overall, more than 95% of vehicles manufactured were exported. The main export markets were Germany, the UK, and Bulgaria. Exports will continue to exceed 90% of all sales in 2010, as well, according to Wolfgang Schneider, vice-president of Ford Europe, in charge of government and environmental issues.
According to official statistics, the only two months of actual production were November and January, when 300 and 58 commercial vehicles were assembled respectively.
Ford Romania's output will rise to 250,000 vehicles in 2011 and to 300,000 units in 2012. When taking over the plant in March 2008, John Fleming, president of Ford Europe, announced for 2010 an output of 50-60,000 units.
