Ford Motor Company plans to build a technological centre usingthe model of Renault Technologie Roumanie in Romania as well, whereit is set to develop future models of the US brand, an investmentlikely to get to several hundred million euros, if itmaterialises.
"Besides manufacturing a new car, after a brand new concept,Ford also plans to set up a technological and innovation centrethat could go beyond what Renault has achieved in Titu. TheAmericans will invest in Craiova despite the difficult situationglobally, and Romania will thus have two powerful technologycentres for the car industry," official sources state.
Ford representatives did not comment on this issue.
Starting autumn, several amendments to the contract for theprivatisation of Craiova plant signed with Ford in September 2007have been negotiated, with the modifications being mainly relatedto delaying the American's initial deadlines for the finalisationof investments and the scheduled production levels.
According to the above-quoted sources, the new form of the contracthas reached Premier Boc and is pending approval should no furtherdifferences emerge.
