Former Gourmet owner starts collective farm

14.06.2005, 21:10 8

Mihai Lungu, a former state secretary from the Ministry of Agriculture and a former shareholder in processed meat producer Gourmet, has established a collective farm for rearing swine. The new farms will receive an initial 10 million euro investment. "The collective farm will be comprised only of individuals involved in the rearing of swine and in the vegetal sector or who are going to invest in the swine farming sector. We will invest in facilities for hosting around 100,000 heads in the first year. The total investment will come to around 10 million euros, half of which will be SAPARD money, with 1.5 million euros representing self-funding from farmers and 3.5 million euros coming from five-year loans. Added to that there is the slaughterhouse, which will be ready in December, as part of a 2.3 million euro investment," says Lungu, chairman of the collective farm. ZF
