George Enescu Festival and BCR Open fill five-star hotels

George Enescu Festival, the BCR Open tennis tournament and theBlack Sea Energy Forum due to start in a few days, are bringing atleast 2,000 foreign tourists to the five-star hotels in the capitalcity over a span of about four weeks, boosting the occupancy rateof hotels by 30% above this year's average. The revenues of JWMarriott Bucharest Grand Hotel, Intercontinental and Radisson Sasfrom these events could exceed 1.4 million euros, according to thecalculations of ZF, which took into account an average rate of 175euros per night and an average four-night stay.

"We're starting to feel an increase in occupancy rate because ofthe events held at this time. We are currently operating at an 86%occupancy rate, because of the tennis tournament and of otherevents," said Dina Litzica, PR and marketing manager of five-starJW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel. This is the first time in thelast few months when Marriott has revealed its occupancy rate, yetits officials did specify that the 86% was due to current events,and was not representative of the entire year.

JW Marriott operates 402 rooms and ended last year with 17.1million euros in losses, while turnover stood at 38 million euros,according to the data available on the Finance Ministry'swebsite.

On the other hand, the George Enescu Festival, one of the mostimportant cultural events held in Bucharest this year, broughtalmost 1,000 guests to the Intercontinental Hotel since the 30th ofAugust until 26th of September when it ended.

"Violinist Nigel Kennedy and cellist Yo Yo Ma, who came togetherwith the Silk Road orchestra, conductor Charles du Toit and the"Les Ballets de Monte Carlo" are just some of the names that stayedat Intercontinental Hotel since the beginning of the festival,"stated Dana Chiriac, marketing and PR manager of theIntercontinental Hotel.

The hotel posted 4.6 million euros in turnover in the firsthalf, down 33% compared with the same time last year.

Radisson Hotel had Japanese, American, English and French guestswho came in Romania for the music festival. "September and Octoberare very good months in terms of events, which generate a muchhigher traffic, compared with the summer period. The occupancy rateof the hotel implicitly increases. The Enescu Festival attractedvery many tourists, who stayed at our hotel," said Adrian Adam,marketing and sales manager of Radisson Sas Hotel in Bucharest.
