Hard Rock Cafe, one of the most popular international restaurant chains, which operates over 120 restaurants worldwide, has voiced plans to open the first Romanian restaurant in the autumn, in a unit covering 2,000sqm, located in Herastrau Park, according to information released on the company's website.
The restaurant will have a seating capacity of 450, with an additional 250 capacity on a terrace overlooking the lake. The new restaurant will be one of the largest operated by Hard Rock Cafe on the European market, according to the above quoted sources.
The company has already started recruiting for positions such as head chef, sous chefs, waiting on staff, bar staff and supervisors, as well as for supply-related jobs, with the first interviews scheduled to take place on June 28th. However, representatives of Hard Rock Cafe Bucharest were unable to provide any further details on the exact number of employees or on the value of the investment.
Bucharest becomes the second eastern European capital to boast a Hard Rock Cafe, after Warsaw. The restaurant in the Polish capital covers around 900 square metres over two floors. The brand remains extremely popular in western Europe and is present, with at least one restaurant, in several cities in the UK, Holland, Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain and France.
On the domestic market, Hard Rock Cafe will be positioned between fast-food restaurants and high-class restaurants.
Altrom holds the franchise for Hard Rock Cafe Bucharest, as well as the five-star Howard Johnson Grand Plaza Hotel and the four-star Best Western Parc Hotel, according to previous information supplied by Altrom representatives. At the time, the initial investment for Hard Rock Cafe Bucharest was put at around three million euros.
Hard Rock Cafe opened its first restaurant in 1971 in London, and 11 years later began expanding the network to U.S. cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, New York, Dallas, Boston and Washington, as well as European cities such as Paris and Berlin.
