IBM will provide IT services for other companies in Romania, aswell, via the centre rented from Petrom. Negotiations also involvedinternational teams, with the agreement being approved by IBM's topmanagement, says Mihai Tudor.

The agreement whereby IBM Romania will operate OMV Petrom's datacentre for ten years practically amounts to an investment by theAmerican company on the local market, which will enable IBM toexpand its range of products, Mihai Tudor, the company's generalmanager, told ZF.
"This agreement shows IBM's intentions and actions to expand itsbusinesses on emerging markets. The agreement with Petrom isanother expression of the interest and of the level of investmentsthat IBM is involved in on emerging markets, Romania included, although this is a time of crisis when few companies boost theirnumber of experts and their investments," Tudor said.
The data centre is located within Petrom City, the new 100million-euro office project, which will accommodate the employeesof the biggest company in Romania, with over 2 billion euros inturnover in the first half of this year. The contract is not anoutsourcing one and does not entail an employee transfer fromPetrom to IBM, Tudor explains.
