Canadian-held Greengrass Group, which developed a database withauto insurance claims, has come to hold information on 1.3 billionclaims filed with nine insurance companies and is preparing toexport the system to other countries in the region, as well.

Ian Robinson, owner of the Canadian group, says the ACIDdatabase (Auto Claims Information Database -a database withinformation on auto claims) was created based on requirements andsuggestions of insurance companies, with its main purpose being todiscourage fraud. The database contains information on both onevents related to auto liability insurance policies (RCA) and tocomprehensive insurance policies (Casco).

Customers who stage accidents or even the theft of a vehiclewill be possible to be tracked down more easily since each of thenine companies has access to a much wider database than their ownclaim history.

"During a crisis period it is easiest to stage an accident toget the insurance money. People think insurers have very deeppockets and can pay, but this is not quite so," Robinson told ZF inan interview.

The Canadian has so far persuaded nine insurance companies totake part in this system. Among them are Omniasig, Generali, Ardafand Credit Europe Asigurări, with Robinson saying he is still innegotiations with three big companies - Astra, Allianz-Ţiriac andGroupama.
