Interbrew reports sales topping 3.4 million hectolitres of beer

Interbrew Romania, the third largest competitor on the local beer market, saw a 30% rise in its sales volume to 3.4 million hectolitres last year. Interbrew, the local branch of InBev reported the biggest growth among all the markets on which the InBev group is present, according to the information provided by the company. In 2005, Interbrew registered a sales volume of 2.6 million hectolitres, which represented an 18% rise against 2004. Last year, the manufacturer of Bergenbier launched a new brand on the local market- Lowenbrau, which registered a sales volume that topped the companyes initial estimates. "Last year we reported the biggest sales volume in the companyes history. The consistent marketing strategy and the execution at the point of sale generated record sales and a yearend with figures that beat our expectations," said Mihai Ghyka (photo), general manager of Interbrew Romania. The domestic beer market grew by 20.6% to approximately 18.3 million hectolitres last year, according to the data provided by Romanian Brewers Association. This was a significant increase in comparison with 2005, when the volume of beer sales reported on the domestic market amounted to 15.2 million hectolitres, up by only 4.7% against the previous year. The sales reported by Interbrew on the domestic market topped the marketes growth rate by 10%, according to the InBev report.
