Just 3% of drivers get more expensive auto liability policies because of accidents

Only 3% of drivers have been penalised by insurance companiesthrough higher tariffs for RCA (civil liability car insurance)policies for accidents caused in the past since the introduction ofthe bonus-malus system, early this year. The system entailspunishing drivers with accidents though higher RCA premiums at themoment policies are renewed and cutting the premium for driverswith a "clean" driving record. "(...) Prior to the introduction,10-12% of insured persons were expected to be penalised," statedMona Cucu, director with the Insurance Supervisory Commission(CSA), present yesterday at the International Insurance ReinsuranceForum organised in Sinaia by Media XPRIMM. Insurers state thatbecause of the challenging economic situation car insurance fraudhas been rising faster. Some clients are trying to get money frominsurers by staging accidents, wanting to get more than the car isworth and most of the times fraud is achieved together with aclaims inspector.
