KPMG, the domestic unit of the giant providing audit, tax and advisory services, posted 30% higher revenues in the fiscal year ended on September 30, 2005 as compared to the corresponding period of last year, according to the company''s officials.

"KPMG in Romania''s revenues have also increased considerably," stated Victor Kevehazi, a Senior Partner of KPMG in Romania.

"Romania is in the spotlight now and many large companies are coming to do business here. This is also reflected on our revenue status, our company having achieved an increase of 30% as compared to the same period of last year," Kevehazi continued.

However, company officials did not reveal the level of revenues posted in the above-mentioned fiscal year.

KPMG Romania in 2004 logged turnover worth 11.3 million euros, total revenues of 13.8 million euros and net income revolving around 0.5 million euros, in line with the report sent to the Ministry of Finances.

The domestic branch of the Swiss professional services firm is focusing, in the domain of human resources, on the recruitment of young people, with solid theoretical knowledge, and on training them for a career in this field. In fact, all audit firms and consultancies follow similar policies as regards the recruitment of future employees.

In Romania and the Republic of Moldova, KPMG operates through its three offices based in Bucharest, Timisoara and Kishinev. At present, the Romanian unit has 350 employees, both Romanians and expats.

Globally, KPMG reported a 16.4% surge in revenues, to a value of 15.65 billion dollars (about 13 billion euros). Mike Rake, chairman of KPMG International, sees the evolution registered in the fiscal year ended in September 30, 2005 as "exceptional, reflecting increased business activity and gains in market share, in a difficult regulatory environment."

KPMG, together with Ernst & Young, Deloitte & Touche and PricewaterhouseCoopers are the so-called "Big Four" in the field of audit services. Globally, KPMG has more than 94,000 employees and operates in 148 countries.

The firm has lately included in its customer portfolio corporations such as Bank of Nova Scotia, Sprint Nextel, Honda, Carlsberg, Mitsubishi and Germany''s MAN group.

Locally, KPMG is well-positioned both on the audit services market, and in the area of business services, where it is involved in private deals and in privatisations. roxana.petrescu@zf.ro
