Mail products market set to rise by over 7%

Thierry Blain, the general manager for Central and Eastern Europe with GPV, one of the major producers of envelopes on the market, says the Eastern European arm of the group will contribute 12% to annual turnover worth above 300 million euros.
"At this moment, the business we operate in Central and Eastern Europe, an area Romania is also part of, accounts for around 8% in the total sales of GPV-Curtis, whereas prior to the merger the region generated 12% of GPV sales," Thierry Blain told ZF Transilvania. He also said he planned to bring the unit he runs back to a contribution of 12% in the revenues of the new group in the following years.
Blain estimates that after the merger between GPV and Germany's Curtis, GPV Romania will be part of a group that is to become the main supplier on the European market of envelope production and related corporate mail management services. The merger between the two international companies was finalised early this year, with the new GPV-Curtis group developing annual production of 17 billion envelopes.
GPV representative estimates the group will derive total turnover worth above 300 million euros, with GPV Romania set to play an important part in the global strategy of the group.
In Blain's opinion, the Romanian mail products market now advances at a rate of around 6-7% annually, but this rate is likely to rise as Romania will have to adjust its administrative system to the EU one.
"We've reacted to demand in this domain by developing a mail-services department. Production facilities are located in Cluj, while mail management activities are exclusively handled by the Bucharest agency of GPV Romania (...)," specified Thierry Blain.
According to him, approximately 3 million euros have been invested in the past two years to develop the mail-service department for a safe database processing for customers and for 10 million documents to be inserted per month in the first phase.
The company's management says 2007 investments in the expansion of production capacities and the purchase of new equipment will begin at the end of the first quarter of this year. The company invested over 700,000 euros last year to develop the production capacities of Cluj. It does not plan to launch new products this year, but to strengthen the existing ones.
Blain could not provide any data on the progression of the company's market share, but according to the latest data offered by the company, GPV Romania held around 60% of the market in 2005.
Besides developing domestically, the company last year saw its exports rise by 20%, with sales abroad accounting for around 25% in turnover at present.
GPV Romania annually produces 600 million envelopes. The production centre in Cluj-Napoca was set up in 2002, with its construction taking 3 million euros.
