Nearly 6,000 Romanians looked for an MBA programme, a graduateor undergraduate degree at universities abroad at the twoeducational fairs organised in Bucharest at the end of last week, which is a higher number than in the previous years. The crisisprompted managers to be more cautious and secure their jobs via asmany diplomas as possible, with ever more Romanian universitystudents wanting to go to the UK or to Denmark so they can get awell-paid job during faculty.

Although the period of economic decline does not influence localmanagers' decision to take an MBA programme, one can, however, notice a rise in Romanians' interest for business educationalprogrammes this year. 300 executives - mainly middle managers -attended the international MBA fair QS World MBA Tour lastThursday, organised by QS, almost double as many as lastyear.
"Candidate quality has improved, we no longer have teenagers oryoung people coming, but managers with the necessary expertise tosign up for an MBA. Whereas four or five years ago most Romanianexecutives wanted to go to the UK or to the US to study, now theywant to be closer to home, and study in Romania or in the region, because they want to keep their jobs," says Zoya Zaitseva, regionalmarketing director of QS.
