Man who brought BMW in Romania buys car dealers in Germany

Michael Schmidt, who controls Automobile Bavaria, the biggestBMW dealer domestically, has stepped up development plans on maturemarkets such as Germany, after having logged 4m-euro losses inRomania last year amid RON decline.
Michael Schmidt took over two BMW centres south of Munich(Starnberg and Germering) from Schorsch Meier and a third in BadTolz in April. "The value of the deal for the takeover of the threecentres in Germany revolves around several million euros, but below10m euros," Schmidt specified.
Expansion in Germany comes as the Romanian car market furthercontracted by 25% in the first half, after having plunged by almost60% last year. Despite the falling market, BMW sales domesticallyrose by over 41% in the first six months, to almost 700 cars.
Domestically, Automobile Bavaria holds 9 complete centres, two saleand delivery centres in Oradea and Galaţi and a centre in Craiovaundergoing certification.
Overall, Schmidt owns 4 BMW centres in Germany, the only dealernetwork held by a Romanian abroad.
Whereas as far as BMW brand is concerned the businessman plansfurther potential acquisitions in Vienna, Bratislava or Prague, fortrucks the East seems more profitable. "Now, with MAN we want toexpand in Kosovo and possibly in Georgia (...)"
