Marcom doubles turnover to 46 million euros

30.05.2007, 19:13 12

Marcom company, the domestic distributor of Komatsu Japanese construction equipment brand and one of the major players on the domestic market, last year generated turnover worth 46m euros, double the figure registered in the previous year.
For this year, the company's representatives project 50% turnover growth.
"The main growth driver is the significant increase in the volume of projects in the constructions field, as well as in the domain of infrastructure, not only road infrastructure, but also water and sewage or natural gas network expansion," stated Constantin Marcu, Marcom chairman. The company last year sold more than 350 pieces of equipment, excluding forklifts and cranes. The domestic market is rapidly maturing, with the first signs being the shrinking market of used equipment and the rising demand for specialised machinery and equipment. "Sales of specialised equipment are soaring as such equipment comes with a maximum productivity level. At the same time, the rising number of projects has also led to a diversification of the range of available equipment," explained Marcom chairman.
Bucharest remains the most important market, both owing to the high number of real estate projects under development and to Bucharest being the national centre where orders are signed. A significant part of equipment acquired in Bucharest is then delivered outside Bucharest.
"Most contracts are signed in Bucharest and just part of deliveries are made to the rest of the country. As a matter of fact, western states are witnessing the same trend, with multinationals carrying out purchase campaigns at a centralised level," says Marcom chairman.
The domestic distributor of Komatsu brands at present has 75 employees and is going to hire another 15-20 people by yearend. Domestically, Marcom has six branches, in Iasi, Braila, Constanta, Turda, Arad and Deva. Investments operated last year amount to 400,000-500,000 euros and were mainly destined to improve the IT system and the logistic park.
In 2006,the construction equipment market reached a level of 1,500 sold units, with an increase of around 50% being projected for this year, to around 2,200 pieces of equipment absorbed by the market, according to information released by the Association of Construction Equipment Distributors (ADUC).
In terms of quantity, half of the domestic construction equipment market is made up of bulldozer-excavators, namely 720 units of the total of 1,500 units. The main rivals of Marcom company are Terra Romania, the distributor of JCB brand, Bergerat-Monnoyeur, a distributor of Caterpillar and Liebherr equipment. Marcom is controlled by Constantin and Monica Marcu.
