MedLife negotiates two acquisitions and could reach 2,000 employees

Mihai Marcu, one of the shareholders of private medical servicesoperators MedLife, says he is negotiating two acquisitions outsideBucharest , which could be completed this year, which are "in therange of millions of euros."

The company is also continuing its greenfield projects, with thebiggest ones targetting hospitals.

"We have a lot of plans. We will have the Obor urology hospital,the Titan hyperclinic and surgery ward, and Telegraf, which will bea 10,000 square-metre hospital, with 120 beds and six surgeryrooms," Marcu told ZF in an interview.

Lately, companies in the private medical sector have seen anextremely aggressive expansion, stimulated by the fact that theindustry has remained on the rise despite the overall economicdecline.

According to data centralised by ZF in mid-year, the mainoperators in the sector announced projects of over 150 millioneuros in medical facilities, with 70 million euros to be investedthis year alone. More than 13 clinics have been announced for thisyear, with plans to build seven hospitals until 2011.

MedLife is the biggest player in the private medical industry byturnover, which could reach 38 million euros this year, while itsEBITDA could amount to 7 million euros, according to companyestimates.

MedLife is currently the biggest employer in the sector, with1,500 employees. Next year, after finalising its investments, thecompany will reach 2,000 employees, with 80% being medicalpersonnel.
