Microsoft Romania made 29% higher revenues in the 2006 fiscal year that ended on June 30th, compared with the previous fiscal year. According to company officials, Microsoft Romania is now looking to double turnover for the next 3 years.
"The past year was full of transformations and major investments for us. The management team was changed, the team was extended to 90 people and major investments were directed towards the opening of a technical support centre in Bucharest," said the general manager of the company, Ovidiu Artopolescu. The 29% increase is an achievement, but a 50% advance in revenues could have been seen as a very good result, commented Artopolescu.
The only figures the company disclosed refer to revenue derived by the Microsoft Romania services department, which surged by 61%, to 3.8 million dollars, from the 2.3 million dollars posted in the previous fiscal year.
The profit generated by the department's operations increased by 48% from the previous year and the number of employees went up to 20, according to the company.
"The profit posted by the services department of the Romanian unit accounts for 50% of the entire services-related profit made by the South-Eastern European division of Microsoft," stated Sorin Eftene, manager of the services and consulting department. The other business lines (enterprise and small and medium-sized companies), rose by 28% and by 31%, respectively, according to the company.
Out of the product categories that contributed to the company's revenues, the fastest-growing category was that of operating systems, up 41% compared to the previous year. Figures were boosted by the growth of the PC market, which saw significant growth particularly on the individual user segment. Applications and the range of office products and the products for servers also witnessed a 25% increase.
In 2004, according to the web page of the Finance Ministry, the company reported turnover standing at 10.6 million euros and net income worth 2.9 million euros.
Priorities for the new fiscal year include "consolidating the team of managers, launching new versions of Windows, Office and Exchange, as well as the introduction of the new technical support centre," said Ovidiu Artopolescu. "Microsoft Romania will have 200 employees next year. In 18 months at the latest, we will move to new headquarters," added Microsoft Romania's general manager.
