Acasa.ro portal published the results of an IT poll, which verifies the fact that the Internet is still a favourite of those living in the Romanian cities and towns only. Furthermore, the information highway is accessed mainly from the computer at work, while female websurfers are gaining ground on male surfers.
The data published by acasa.ro show that 21% of the more than 4,000 websurfers to have filled the questionnaire throughout March-April are from Bucharest area, while the other respondents are from Brasov, Cluj, Constanta, Craiova, Galati, Iasi, Ploiesti, Suceava and Timisoara, that is cities with university centres in general and where digital telephony networks have a more extensive coverage than in the rest of the country.
Men (57.25% of respondents) surfed the web more often than women, which started gaining ground nonetheless, as 3-5% more female websurfers were registered in the current survey in relation to the previous ones.
As for age groups, the most extensive Internet use was registered by those aged 18-25 (36%) and those aged 25-35 (38%).
The above-mentioned categories use the Internet for 72 hours and 67.5 hours per month on the average, that is at least two hours every day. College and high school students account for 22% of the users, which segment is generally considered non-income making.
As for incomes, those with less than $100 a month account for 43.6%, while those making $100-$200 per month accounted for 24%. Those earning over $200 a month accounted for only 9.8%.
The workplace was again the location from which most people surfed the web (34%), with schools and Internet cafes ranking second (25%). Household websurfers account for 23%.
According to analysts, the IT&C dynamics registered lately shows in the respondent structure, as 45% of the users have less than one year in Internet experience. Those with one to three years in websurfing experience accounted for 37% while those with at least three years in experience accounted for 18%.
