Compania Nationala de Autostrazi si Drumuri Nationale dinRomania (Romanian National Motorway and National Road Company),subordinated to the Transports Ministry, has awarded only one newmotorway construction contract since the beginning of the year, forthe Sibiu orbital road (2.7 kilometres). The total value of the 72contracts awarded by CNADNR since the beginning of the year standsat 185 million RON and 44 million euros.
"A low number of contracts were awarded in the first fivemonths, because the budgetary allocation did not allow us to signnew contracts as a high volume of works was contracted in 2008 and2009, which still is under construction. Moreover, the projectsawarded were challenged," said Adrian Ionescu, head of the HighwayDepartment of CNADNR.
According to Ionescu, all the sections of corridor IV(Nadlac-Constanta) which are financed by the European Union have tobe auctioned in the second half of the year, that is Nadlac-Arad(38.9 kilometres), Timisoara-Lugoj (35.6 kilometres), Lugoj-Deva(99.5 kilometres), Deva-Orastie (32.8 kilometres) and Orastie-Sibiu(82 kilometres).
