General Motors Romania, the general importer of the Chevrolet and Opel brands on the domestic market estimates cumulated sales of the two brands reached 146 million euros in the fist ten months of the year, as more than 14,600 cars worth on average 10,000 euros each were delivered, says Cristian Oltean, marketing and communication manager of the company. The importer estimates it will post a 185 million-euro turnover this year and deliver 18,500 cars, an increase of more than 70% from last year. The Opel brand witnessed a 99% increase in sales from January through to October, registering 8,840 units. For the whole year, the company is expecting to sell 11,000 Opel-branded cars. Chevrolet sales rose by 46% during the same period, to more than 5,700 units. The Aveo model launched this March has been the driving force behind the brand's growth, accounting for more than half of all sales, 3,157 units, in the first ten months. The Spark model, the brand's mini class car, has been the most in demand model, selling almost 1,570 units, resulting in supply being unable to match demand. According to this data, GM Romania's market share stands at 6%, up from 4.1% in 2005. "Chevrolet has two models positioned on the mini and compact segment, which are on the rise. In 2007, most sales will be derived from the Aveo and Spark models, which will come with several new engine options, including a diesel engine that will be available for the entire range," Cristian Oltean said.
