Patriciu invests in bitumen production

21.06.2006, 18:53 7

The Vega Ploiesti refinery, a part of the portfolio of the Rompetrol petroleum group, run by businessman Dinu Patriciu, will invest 7 million dollars (5.52 million euros) to build a road bitumen facility. The production will go entirely towards domestic consumption. "In the next 15-20 years, given the programmes for highway construction and those for the rehabilitation of the infrastructure, the demand for such high-quality material will be very high. The capacity of the facility will enable us to cover 50% of the current national consumption registered for this type of bitumen, which is currently secured only by imports," stated Marcel Pavel, general manager of the Vega Refinery. The company uses its own funds to complete the investment, and suppliers of equipment to build the facility include companies such as IKA, Verder and Chemet Wood from Germany, Emerson Process Management and Heatech from the US and Ferroli from Italy. The investment project entails rebuilding the equipment for bitumen production from scratch.
