Private clinics make tens of millions of euros from 10-euro subscriptions

Companies pay an average of 10 to 20 euros for a subscriptionnegotiated with private clinics for their employees, reveals aZiarul Financiar survey based on data supplied by thecompanies.

The healthcare subscription is the most widely offered employeebenefit, which generally includes free of charge medicalexaminations and price cuts for tests, and even free of chargetests. The subscription does not, however, cover hospital carecosts and complex medical investigations.

Most operators of private medical services built their businessbased on these healthcare subscriptions, which sometimes accountfor as much as 50% of the turnover. At present there are almost400,000 corporate subscriptions on the Romanian market, accordingto estimates of research company PMR.

The market of private medical subscriptions offered by companiesto employees could amount to around 70 million euros a year if oneconsiders an average 15-euro subscription per month and 400,000subscribers. Subscriptions should compete with private insurance,but the latter is a market worth only 8-10 million euros.
