Raiffeisen launches its first funds to invest abroad

30.06.2006, 21:17 7

Raiffeisen Asset Management, the investment management company of Raiffeisen Bank, launched the first mutual funds that will also invest in listed shares on the international capital markets.
By launching these funds, Raiffeisen intends to diminish the risks pertaining to the investment in shares on the domestic market, by spreading its investments on several markets.
Raiffeisen Asset Management launched two mutual funds. The first of them, Raiffeisen Prosper, will invest up to 80% of its assets in shares listed on the Romanian or international markets. The second fund, Benefit, will mainly invest in municipal and government bonds, with the listed shares to account for about 30% of its assets.
Besides mutual funds, Raiffeisen Asset Management proposes that institutional or individual investors, with spare resources available, access personalised investment portfolios. The minimum subscription amounts to 100,000 euros in RON.
"With the investments made on the international stock markets we reduce the risks related to the Romanian market. These investments will allow us to get better yields, at times when the Romanian market experiences slower periods. The significant advantage of these funds is the high liquidity of these markets," stated Mihail Ion, chairman of Raiffeisen Asset Management.
The company will benefit from the expertise of the group. Raiffeisen Capital Management, Raiffeisen Bank's investment management division is the biggest fund manager in Austria, with assets of about 37 billion euros.
The two funds Raiffeisen launched, Prosper and Benefit, currently total about 6.7 million euros (24 million RON) in assets, out of which 4.7 million euros (17 million RON) account for the initial investment of the bank. The total assets of the mutual funds on the Romanian market amounted to over 130 million euros at the end of May.
