Romanian employers' associations need multinationals' expertise

The lack of representativeness of the major companies in theemployers' associations part of the Social and Economic Council,the conflicts of employers' associations leaders, as well as thefragmentation of the organisations representing the businessenvironment in the talks with the unions and the authorities arethe reasons why Romania does not have a strong employers'association, as other European countries do. Businesspeople requestan employers' association reform, as well as a reorganisation ofthe Social and Economic Council.
"To create a strong employers' association, a more activeinvolvement of the managers of the major companies in the runningof the employers' institutions is needed, because the propositionson the table during negotiations with unions and authorities makeno impact on the business sector," said Mariana Gheorghe, chiefexecutive of OMV Petrom, yesterday during a conference organised byZF together with OMV Petrom, the Petroleum and Gas EmployerFederation and the Association of Utility and Power Companies.
