Keiji Kobayashi, vice-president of Yokogawa Europe, thinks thatEastern Europe could see significant energy and petroleum productrefinery investments over the coming period, which could also leadto the growth of the business in Romania, where about 90 engineersare currently working.

The local office of the company was established in 2004, and the87 engineers are developing software for industrial equipment andmachinery. The company's most important client is Saint Gobain, with Yokogawa Romania developing the software for the group'sfactories worldwide.

"This is not a good time for new businesses, especially inEurope. We see a 1% GDP increase in Europe in 2010, while prospectsremain much better for Russia, the United States and especiallyAsia. We, however, expect our clients to invest in energy andrefineries in Eastern Europe," said Kobayashi during his firstvisit to Romania, one year after taking over the Europeanoperations.

More than half of Yokogawa Romania's turnover comes fromsoftware supplied to energy and petroleum industry clients, such asShell, Exxon Mobil, BP, Total and companies with petroleum industryoperations in the Middle East.
