Two of the largest Romanian retail brokerage firms, BTSecurities and Estinvest in Focsani, asked and managed to obtainthe registration of international shares with the Stock Exchange'sDepository in order for Romanian investors interested in suchacquisitions to know their shares are safe.

Foreign shares registered with the Central Depository at therequest of brokers could be traded on the Stock Exchange's yet tobe introduced alternative system (CAN), which received the approvalof the CNVM (National Securities Commission), a system that alsohas a category dedicated to international companies.

"We are getting ready and have taken the first steps. However, the system will not be so easy to set into motion becauseinternational transactions are conducted through global accounts. The project for the Stock Exchange's ATS (alternative tradingsystem) started two and a half years ago. When the Stock Exchange'sATS is launched and tested, we will use the system for trading. Upuntil then, we can make a business plan. The idea seemsinteresting, share registrations are starting, we ourselvesregistered the latest two shares to be requested by a client," saidRares Nilas, general manager of BT Securities.
