Romanian state's riches are worth 15 billion euros

Out of the 100 most valuable companies in Romania, the stateholds stakes only in 28, be they majority or minority ones, with 22of them operating in the energy sector. According to calculationsmade by ZF and by investment advisor Capital Partners in the Top100 Most Valuable Companies in Romania, the state's riches,measured as stakes in the 28 companies, amount to 15 billion euros,with over 10 billion euros being fetched exclusively by the energysector.
Hidroelectrica, Nuclearelectrica, Romgaz, Transgaz, Petrom, the yetto be privatised Electricas, and minority stakes that the statestill holds in companies such as Petrom, are the biggest assetsstill in possession of the Romanian state.
The importance of the energy sector was apparent this year, aswell, when, for the first time in the five years since ZF has beenpublishing the yearbook of the most valuable companies in Romania,a state-held energy company made it into the top three, leavingbehind a services company. Hidroelectrica, Romania's biggest energyproducer, worth over 3.3 billion euros, replaced telecom giantOrange as the second most valuable company in 2009.
