Romanians get the accessories first and the furniture next

"We have launched the new glass collection." This is how theMobexpert website opens. The biggest player on the furniture marketdecided in the summer of this year to fight the sales decline viatwo new collections: a tableware collection and a furniturecollection for the home and garden. The change of vision comes inthe context where "new visitors buy accessories now and thefurniture only afterwards," the executive of another majorfurniture retailer was quoted as saying by Business Construct,which appears on Thursday with Ziarul Financiar.

Businessman Dan Şucu, who controls the most powerful group inthe furniture industry, relies on the fact that people will bestaying at home increasingly more, so they will want to decoratetheir home as well as they can. Back in the summer, Mobexpertstores created special corners for tableware collections, and madethem as visible as possible. In Romania, as throughout the entireEuropean, home accessories account for as much as 50% of overallsales of the big furniture retailers. When Swedish giant IKEAentered the Romanian market in March 2007, its accessoriesaccounted for half its sales.

Home accessory and decorations sales are estimated at around 100million euros, based on ZF calculations using the availabledata.
