Romeo Jantea will relinquish his chief executive position with BCR Asigurari, one of the largest companies on the general insurance market, whose turnover stood at over 80 million euros last year. Jantea, 45, is also the chairman of the company's Board of Directors. He was appointed to these positions four years ago and his term is due to expire early in October. "I am stepping down from the position of chief executive because I want to do something different," Jantea says. Jantea had previously worked for Aviva, as development director and for ING Asigurari as sales manager. BCR Asigurari, a member of the BCR financial group was the sixth-largest player on the general insurance market at the end of the first half. The company posted 50.5 million-euro (178.8 million RON) revenues in the first six months, double the premiums underwritten from the general insurance business in the same time of 2005. The company operates only on the general insurance segment as of this year after having transferred its life insurance portfolio to a specialised company that BCR established. BCR Asigurari shareholders called a general meeting for September 19 to discuss the appointment of a chief executive and of a chairman of the Board. The shareholders will also elect a new member of the Board of Directors, now that Mariean Busca decided to step down. The other directors of BCR Asigurari are Nicolae Danila, Dan Mogos and Mircea Purcarea. BCR Asigurari is controlled by BCR, which owns directly and indirectly through subsidiaries 81.74% in the company, and by BCR group employees who own 18.26%.
