Rompetrol Logistics, the transportation company part of the Rompetrol group, has posted sales worth around 27 million euros (89.9 million RON) in the first half of the year, a value almost equal to the revenues derived from transportation and services for 2006.
In 2007, the company outsourced its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sales division, which last year accounted for around 53% of its business, and now relies on transportation and services.
Approximately 32 million euros of the company's 63 million-euro turnover (registered in 2006) were generated by LPG sales, while 31 million euros were derived from road transport, railway transport and services. Railway transport generated 33% for the business, while road transport accounted for 6%.
"The increase in turnover registered for the road transport segment was aided by transport that supplies Rompetrol's extended network of petrol stations," stated company officials. Rompetrol Downstream, the retail division of the group, is expected to account for 42.5% of this year's transactions for Rompetrol Logistics. Among the investments planned by Rompetrol Logistics for this year is the purchase of 35 lorry tankers and cabs for fuel transportation, which are worth 6.2 million euros. "Railway transport and road transport have witnessed a significant development since 2006, whilst the weight of other operations in the overall turnover has declined, because the sale of liquefied petroleum gas has been transferred to a newly-established company in the group, Rompetrol Gas," explained the company representatives.
Rompetrol Logistics will develop its railway transport division this year, increasing its rolling stock by three diesel locomotives and 100 carriages, as well as boosting its number of employees.
"The rise in the number of specialised personnel has, among other things, allowed the company to take over more than 10% of railway transport previously carried out by other authorised companies," specified Rompetrol representatives.
