With four years of experience at Linklaters and four years of independent experience, RTPR - Dragos Radu, Costin Taracila, Victor Padurari and Alexandru Retevoescu has managed to bring Allen & Overy, one of the Magic Circle (the name given to the five largest law firms in the UK) onto the Romanian market. With turnover worth 2.5 million-euro turnover and a team of 33 lawyers, Taracila revealed to Target magazine the path followed by the four partners since their careers started at Linklaters in 2000.
The four lawyers were some of the first generation to be trained according to the British model. "There was a huge difference between what we had learned in school and what we were doing at the office. We gathered an impressive amount of information and experience in a very short time, because the workload was significant," Taracila explained.
In April 2004, the four announced their departure from Linklaters, and shortly found out that when you create your own law firm, knowledge is just about all that you take with you. In April 2004, the four moved into their new headquarters, an apartment in the Primaverii district of Bucharest. The name RTPR was already registered, because they could not leave before taking care of all the details.
"At Linklaters, we had all the necessary resources at our disposal, but when you are on your own, you have to take care of every detail personally. However, we eventually gained back all the facilities we had lost, but it took a great deal of effort," Taracila added.
So far, the most important deal RTPR has been involved in was the sale of BCR (Banca Comerciala Romana), when the firm represented Portuguese-based Millennium, which came up against Erste in the final bid.
The firm has recruited around 4-5 people each year since 2004, and 9 people last year. RTPR currently employs 33 lawyers.
