Samsung signals the start of 3D TV battle

South-Korea's Samsung company, one of the world's biggestproducers of latest generation TV sets, will launch the first LEDTV sets that allow the viewing of 3D images in Romania in April,with prices set to go even as high as 16,000 RON (around 4,000euros). Raul Filip, division manager of Samsung ElectronicsRomania, says the new products will be strongly promoted amidestimates there will be clients interested and willing to pay evenas much as 4,000 euros for such a TV set on the Romanian market."We plan to promote this product aggressively. The promotion budgetis substantial and we want clients thinking of LED 3D to saySamsung," added Filip, without providing further details about thepromotion budget. Last year, Romanians bought approximately 500,000latest generation TV sets, for which they paid 180m euros,according to market estimates and data provided by GfK marketresearch firm. Filip says that 5% of the TV sets Samsung sold inRomania last year were of the LED range and the percentage coulddouble to 10% in overall deliveries this year.
