Seaside hotel owners: Summer season figures worse than last year

The owners of Romanian seaside hotels maintain that revenuescollected this summer are as much as 20% lower than last year, withrooms mainly occupied during weekends.


"Whereas in 2009 I expected a tourism rebound this year, in lateAugust I felt that the situation was in fact significantly worse,"stated Timişoara businessman Josef Goschy, one of the biggestseaside hotel owners, who controls eight seaside hotels throughUnita Turism chain.
The revenues of the hotels he controls were 15% lower in theJune-August period against the previous season.
Nicolae Bucovală, owner of Tomis three-star hotel in Mamaia andpresident of Mamaia Employers' Association, also maintains thatJune, July and August were slower than the same months of 2009,with the revenues of the unit he controls falling by 5%.
This summer also brought lower revenues for the travel agenciesthat sold holiday packages on the Romanian seaside.
While summer months brought weak results in terms of tourismoperators' revenues, hotel owners expect clients in September, aswell.
