Lawyer Sebastian Guţiu, 34, who has been running the Bucharestoffice of Austrian firm Schoenherr for nearly two years, willbecome equity partner of the law firm next year, after beingpromoted, alongside four other lawyers in the region, two from theCzech Republic and two from Serbia.
The new appointments bring Schoenherr, one of the major law firmsin the region, with a team of over 300 lawyers in 12 countries, to24 equity partners, i.e. partners that share the firm's profit atthe end of the year.
"This is the first time since the firm's establishment thatSchoenherr appoints partners from outside of Austria. But this is anormal step considering that offices outside Austria now generateas much as 60% of the firm's revenues, with the Bucharest officecontributing 12-13% of the turnover, being the second biggest afterthe one in Vienna," explained Guţiu.
He has been working at Schoenherr since 2001 and took over at thehelm of the local office in early 2008, but as a localpartner.
"My income will be much less predictable because it will depend onthe results of all 12 Schoenherr offices," explains Guţiu, whocoordinates the real estate team and provides consulting servicesin the energy sector.
According to market information, equity partners of law firms inthe region can earn between 500,000 and one million euros, depending on the firm's profit margin, number of partners and oneach partner's share of the earnings.
