Skoda sales could increase by 100 million euros

Skoda's turnover on the domestic market is currently estimated at almost 400 million euros, an increase of over 30% against last year.
The average price of a Skoda car sold in 2007 was 13,000 euros, plus VAT, an increase of 500 euros on the previous year, which led the Czech carmaker to derive turnover worth almost 300 million euros in Romania.
"The increase in the acquisition value is due to the increased number of Octavia and Superb models, whose price is higher compared with the rest of the range. The sales volume estimated for Skoda in 2008 is 30,000 units," stated Vlad Rusu, Skoda brand manager with Porsche Romania, the company's importer on the domestic market.
With this year's sales estimated at more than 30,000 units, turnover should come close to 400 million euros, according to ZF estimates. In comparison, the turnover registered by VW from car sales in 2007 stood at more than 466 million euros, generated by a volume of 23,315 units and an average price of 20,000 euros (VAT not included).
In 2007, the number of acquisition contracts for Skoda vehicles reached 24,854 units, whilst the number of cars delivered reached 23,197 units.
"Initial estimates were for 21,500 cars. They were revised throughout the year and because of the increase in production in the second half, the initial target was surpassed," Rusu explained.
Skoda stock reached approximately 4,000 units in January, a figure that included models that are in the process of being assembled - 2,000 of which are already in the country, Porsche Romania officials say.
The Skoda network on the domestic market currently numbers 30 dealers, but is expected to reach 46 dealers by around 2010-2012.
The rate of development will be adjusted to match the progress of the automotive market. Investment in a Skoda dealer stands at more than 1 million euros, but could be as high as 2 million euros if the location is Bucharest.
The biggest Skoda dealer in terms of sales is Porsche Bucharest Aviatiei, which sold over 2,700 cars in 2007.
