Romanian company BitDefender, part of the Softwin Group, which has recently launched a security software suite and opened an office in Silicon Valley, targets a 5% share of the worldwide security solutions market within the next two years. "By 2010 we intend to control 5% of the total anti-malware market, both on the individual consumer segment and on the SMB segment," Beau Roberts, global marketing director of BitDefender. Malware (malicious software) is a programme or file designed to attack IT systems and may come in the form of a virus, worm, Trojan horse or spyware system. According to previous estimates made by the company officials, BitDefender's share of the world market is approaching 2%. Both the interface of the company's products and their packaging has been redesigned, and BitDefender also intends to enter the segment of online services (SaaS / Software as a Service). "In the second quarter of next year, we will also introduce online back-up services both to the consumer and SMB products," said Roberts. The BitDefender US office currently has 8 employees, with Roberts estimating their number will reach 15-20 by the end of next year, which will also include Romanians.
