Irish company Bechtel&Steiner invested ten million dollars in the construction of the Breaza-based professional golf club Lac de Verde, which boasts facilities comparable to the world's finest clubs.
Lac de Verde club spreads on more than 20 hectares, where well-to-do people can play golf and do business at the same time.
"Multimillion-dollar deals were closed while swinging golf clubs. Perhaps such a place was needed in Romania, as well," says George Armasu, the club's general manager.
Club president Daniela Hintescu had the initiative of building the golf course, while Ronald Castillo, US vice-champion and Hawaii champion, came up with the idea of the Lac de Verde course. He was the one to train the eleven caddies who are working at Lac de Verde.
"These are young men from Breaza, who had the chance to work with a champion of Castillo's stature. Their role is to accompany and help the players," the club manager maintained.
A golfing day at Lac de Verde costs 50 dollars during the week, for one person, while the weekend fee stands at 120 dollars, with the same price applied for guests.
For well-off customers, the club management offers annual subscriptions worth 3,500 dollars for one person or 6,000 dollars, in which case the subscriber can also bring a guest who is granted the title of club member.
Among those having played golf at Lac de Verde there are Englishmen, French, Americans, Japanese, Danish, but also Romanians. The main customers are businessmen, directors of foreign companies' subsidiaries in Romania, wealthy people.
"Although the official opening of the club will only take place next March, this place has already stirred the interest of connoisseurs and curious people. We already have several members," Armasu says.
The Breaza-based golfing club has a nine-hole course, a mini-hotel, a restaurant, a club with conference rooms, swimming pool and fitness facilities. Lac de Verde also offers a modern driving range, where 24 people can train simultaneously.
