Charter airline Tiriac Air reached a turnover of 32.1 million RON (around 9 million euros) last year, an almost 30% increase year on year.
"The activities that contributed to this turnover include the operation of our own charter aircraft, the terminal operations at Otopeni Airport through which we provide airport services to third parties, and also the rental of office and warehousing space," stated Paul Gurau, managing director with Tiriac Air.
As a result, the company exceeded its growth target of 20% for 2006, according to information previously released by the company.
Tiriac Air operates 450-500 charter flights every year, with the most popular destinations being Moscow, Nice, Vienna, Paris and Milan. "On average we have just one flight per day, but during peak periods operate two flights per day," Gurau specified.
For 2007, Tiriac Air forecasts it will derive a turnover similar to the figure generated in 2006. "The reasoning behind this estimate is the current narrowing EUR/RON exchange rate, which affects our fares and services, which are calculated in euros," stated Gurau.
This year the company will make investments to expand its airport terminal activities to other Romanian airports and also intends to acquire new aircraft to add to its existing fleet.
Towards the end of this year, or in early 2008, the company hopes to buy a 13-seat Bombardier Global 5000 aircraft, two 4-seat Eclipse 500 aeroplanes for air taxi services and a 6-seat Agusta Grand helicopter. As a result, by 2008 Tiriac Air will boost the number of seats available for passengers by 50%, according to calculations made by ZF, based on the data provided by the company.
The company's fleet currently includes 2 nine-seat Gulfstream 200 aircraft, a 44-seat Boeing 737-300 aircraft and a 4-seat Bell 206 helicopter.
The company has positioned itself on the luxury segment of the air market and has no ongoing collaborations with travel agencies.
According to previous statements made by the company, prices per hour for a flight start from 3,000 or 4,000 euros and can reach as high as 10,000 euros. In the case of helicopters, prices range between 500 euros and 1,500 euros.
Tiriac Air competes on the charter flight segment with Eurojet, Romavia, as well as with TAROM and Carpatair, which operate charter flights in addition to their regular airline flights.
