UPC's agenda for 2010: Higher Internet speed, higher revenues per subscriber and efficiency

UPC will focus its 30 million-euro investments on improving itsnetwork, not on expansion, says Severina Pascu, chief financialofficer of UPC.
Boosting speeds for Internet access services, increasing the numberof clients for value added services and streamlining the company'sinternal processes were UPC's priorities in 2010, after theoperator managed to end the 2009 recession year with good results,considering the economic context, Severina Pascu, CFO of the secondleading company on the Romanian TV services market, told ZF in aninterview.
"This year UPC will focus on Internet services as far as the launchof new products is concerned, and on launching new options on thevoice segment depending on what the market will demand." Thecompany, which currently offers maximum speeds of 24 Mbps fordownloading data, will focus a large share of its 30 million-euroinvestments made this year on improving the infrastructure.
"The market continues to demand very high speed," says SeverinaPascu, explaining UPC's decision to direct a large part of itsInternet investments to a project that will allow the company atsome point in the future to offer Internet access at speeds of160-180 Mbps.
