Violeta Ciurel dispatched to ING HQ

16.09.2004, 00:00 8

Violeta Ciurel, the general manager of the life insurance division at ING Romania, will be working at the Dutch company's Amsterdam headquarters as of this autumn.

Ciurel has been appointed general manager of global pensions at ING Group, which means she will be in charge of the development strategy for ING's pension products worldwide. Violeta Ciurel, 44, is an insurance professor and one of the first people that ING hired in Romania, back in 1997, to help the life insurance company grow.

ING, one of Europe's largest financial groups, considers private pensions to be one of the most promising industries and pays special attention to this area. On June 30, 2004, the Dutch group was managing pension assets worth 179 billion euros.

"I will be part of a department that will deal with the area of strategy, monitoring pension operations, but also with life insurance - aimed at long-term protection and savings - which ING is developing worldwide," Ciurel told Ziarul Financiar.

Hers is a three-year contract, that can be extended.

Ciurel has been the general manager of ING Romania's life insurance division for five years. "I was thinking about changing something. I think that a change is a good thing, perhaps every 7-8 years. I am very happy that the company is on the right track, that it is poised for certain growth. At any rate, I will still sit on the Board of ING Nederlanden and I will keep in touch with the people here. I do intend to come back. I don't know when, but I will," Ciurel stated.
