Will IT field employees get to earn as much as bank employees?

04.08.2010, 23:11 6
Bankers' salaries dropped by 12% in June compared with thelevel of 2008, while in the IT or telecom fields employees' gainshave advanced by over 18% in the past two years, in line withNational Statistics Institute (INS) data. While at management levelbank salaries are still among the biggest in the economy, peopleworking in the IT field on execution positions have already startedgenerating higher incomes than bank employees. The net averagesalary in the IT field stood at 716 euros in June, up almost 18%from two years ago, while bank employees have lost almost 100 eurosfrom the salary they received in 2008, getting to net salaries of770 euros in mid-2010. Though, it is little likely that the valueof the net average salary in the IT or telecom fields should gobeyond the level of bank salaries, as long as the personnelorganisation chart in the two industry does not change. "Though onexecution positions the salaries of IT employees are bigger thanthose in banks, I do not believe they will exceed the average. Thesalaries of bank managers have remained very high, and theseinstitutions have very many management employees. Instead, in theIT field there are fewer heads, and their salaries are not veryhigh compared with those received by the other employees," saysMirela Marinescu, a recruitment manager with APT recruitmentfirm.
