World's biggest executives put Romania on their agenda

Four of the world's most powerful executives, who run cumulatedbusinesses of over 200 billion euros, are coming to Romania onofficial visits in the unstable year economically andpolitically.


Greg Page, CEO of the Cargill group, with over 100 billiondollars in turnover and 160,000 employees, will come to Romania atthe end of this week, at an anniversary event of a localsubsidiary, with this being one of the most important visits of aforeign executive on the Romanian market.
Although local businesspeople complain about the unfavourableeconomic and fiscal environment, Romania remains an investmenttarget for big multinationals, considering that internationalexecutives choose to visit it despite their companies havingsubsidiaries in 180 countries.
"Despite the economic crisis, Romania remains a very interestingplace for investments. Precisely because of the crisis, newopportunities should be obvious to investors who have the abilityto use their 'business antennae' in these confusing times.Additionally, Romania has natural resources and an educatedpopulation to back new business ventures," believes economyprofessor Gonzalo Garland, vice-president of Spain's IE BusinessSchool, one of the world's best.
The visit of the Cargill CEO comes after other visits from powerfulexecutives, such as Bob McDonald of P&G and William M. Burns, amember of the Board of Directors of Swiss pharmaceutical giantRoche. This month, Romania will also be visited by Pierre Pringuet,CEO of the Pernod Ricard group.
