Yazaki scouting for new locations

17.03.2003, 00:00 14

Although newly entered on the Romanian market, Japanese group Yazaki is already looking for new potential locations for its productive business. It has just bought a piece of land near Ploiesti, where it will build an automotive cabling factory and is interested in developing its Romanian operations, with Dacia-Renault as its one of potential partners.
"The factory in Ploiesti, which will ingest 10 million euros in investments, will make car parts for Toyota and Peugeot. We are, however, exploring possibilities to conduct productive operations in other cities in the country and are interested in working with the Romanian carmaker Dacia, as well," Volker Heuzeroth, Yazaki's European Division CEO and chairman told Ziarul Financiar.
Yazaki has an over 20 hectare piece of land located in the "Crangul lui Bot" industrial park. The Japanese company will hire about 1,600 workers. The construction works will begin as soon as possible, since all the necessary permits and endorsements have been rapidly issued, the representatives of the industrial park say. After all, the local authorities' co-operation in terms of reducing the red tape and providing the necessary utilities was one of the requests the Japanese group made before entering the market. Production will begin, the company representatives say, at the end of the year or early next year at the latest.
Japanese group Yazaki comprises 82 companies, five of which operate in Japan and 64 in various countries of the world.
Yazaki Corporation makes electrical distribution systems, connectors and fibre optics parts. Its clients include Toyota, Nissan, Suzuki, Isuzu, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Honda, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Volvo and Renault. The company has several factories in Europe (Portugal, Spain, UK, Germany, Turkey and Slovakia).
