05.05.2000, 00:00 Autor: Claudiu Mirica

On May 7, we will commemorate 45 years since the disappearance of our great composer George Enescu. The Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society will organise for this event a special concert called "George Enescu at the end of the millenium." With the National Radio Orchestra led by Camil Marinescu will perform baritone Eduard Tumageanian, pianist Valentin Gheorghiu and violin player Sherban Lupu. The concert is part of a more ample project that will restore the lost dimensions and importance to the musical events that occur in Romania.

The manifestation will include creations by Mihai Eminescu and the vocal-symphonic poem "Isis," that will be presented to the audience in premiere in an orchestral variant. Sherban Lupu is considered one of the best interpreters of George Enescu. He studied violin since he was 7 and after he graduated from the Bucharest Conservatory he continued his studies at the la Guildhall School in London. He was taught by some of the most renowned musicians in the world: Yehudi Menuhin, Henryk Szering and Nathan Milstein. The violin player attended numerous international festivals - Vienna International, "Jacques Thibaud" (Paris), "Carl Flesch" (London), etc.

In 1976, Sherban Lupu studied with Dorothy De Lay and Josef Gingold at the Indiana University. He is now a violin teacher at the Illinois University. He was invited to be a jury at violin festivals in England, Holland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Italy.
