Decathlon to open first store in March 2009

Decathlon, a French sports equipment retailer will be making its first opening on the Romanian market at the end of March next year, with a 5,300 square-metre store in Militari Shopping Centre in Bucharest. The investment involved will amount to 6m euros. "The investment budget includes the merchandise stock and personnel training. We have so far recruited 28 staff for the retail department, and we will, to begin with, send 10 employees for training in France. Our first store will require 80 staff," Fabrice Beschu, country manager of Decathlon Romania told ZF. Expansion plans target the opening of 40 stores under the Decathlon brand within the next ten years, in the top ten largest cities in Romania. The average investment in a Decathlon store, with a surface area similar to that in the Militari centre, will range between 4 and 6m euros.
