The dwindling demand for holidays has brought French travelassociations to Bucharest with offers to exotic islands such asTahiti and Bora Bora, even as late as one month ahead of the winterholidays.

Monette Aline, owner of Tahiti Yacht Charter company, says shecame to Romania to promote luxury cruises to Bora Bora, Raiatea andTaha'a in the Pacific Ocean, whose prices exceed 1,400 euros perperson.
"I know these destinations are very far from Romania and theytarget high income earners, but I think in every country in Europethere is a category of very rich people wishing to go on exoticholidays," says Monette Aline, on her first business trip toBucharest. She came to Romania alongside other members of France'snational travel association, Atout France, in search of travelagencies to partner with to sell cruises. Atout France is apublic-private partnership, which is promoted both withstate-allocated money and with contributions from hotel operatorsand other private travel operators.
"Even if we had 10 Romanians going on cruise a year, it would meanwe are on the right track on the Romanian market," said MonetteAline, who manages 20 catamarans (boats) she makes available fortourists for private, four-day cruises, meals and accommodationincluded, which costs over 1,400 euros per person in FrenchPolynesian islands.
