The forecast regarding the economic growth is positive, with a possibility for the 6% target set for 2006 to be exceeded, Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu told Mediafax on Monday in an interview. He said he had not yet received the official data from the National Statistics Institute (INS) regarding the trend of the GDP in the first six months of the year, but that there were signs of interest on the part of investors to develop businesses in the industry and services sectors. "I have been getting other types of signals that indicate that the economy is going well and I have confidence in that," said Tariceanu. The economy went up by 6.9% in real terms in the first quarter, against the first three months of 2005, when the GDP's growth pace was of 6%, according to INS data. The progression in the first quarter is the fastest economic growth pace for a three-month period seen in the 2000 to 2006 interval.
