100 schools get EU funds for refurbishment

At a time when less and less money is allocated from the statebudget to renovate schools, more than 100 schools, high schools anduniversities have won European projects to get 110 million eurosfrom EU, which will be directed to building school workshops,renovating football fields and basketball courts, to the thermalinsulation of schools, acquisition of new furniture, rehabilitationof university campuses, and construction of new schools orclassrooms. The total value of the projects signed until August 13amounts to 160 million euros.

County councils, town halls and universities, which are thebeneficiaries of the programme, have more than 240 million euros inEuropean funds available from 2007 through 2013 for projects torehabilitate the educational infrastructure through the RegionalOperational Programme, chapter 3.4.


No more applications may be submitted now, according to therepresentatives of the Ministry of Development and Tourism, whichmanage this programme, because the value of those already submittedexceeds the value of the funds allocated by at least 50%.
